Excavating Contractors "Hayes Heavy Hauls" West 2675 to A structure that is destined to mark a new era in city dwelling construc- tion is the mammoth building known as the Lincoln Square Building, now rapidly nearing completion. This unique type of building is built on a site 317 feet long and 274 feet wide, located On Fort street west and ex- tending front Cavalry to Military ave- nues. It is, in fact, a series of build- ings and is a near approach to a made-to-order small town, for it will house a population equivalent to a thriving community of 600 people and all that is necessary to maintain it. The Lincoln Square Building con- sists of 110 apartments, each of five rooms and bath, with every conceiv- able modern improvement. It will furnish accommodations to fourteen shops on the Fort street side in which the residents of the building may pur- chase their groceries, drugs, clothing, hardware, and other necessaries. There will also be four suites of of- flees of three rooms each for physi- cians, dentists, etc. A large six-story modern warehouse in the rear will take care of the storage needs of the community. Even the cultural and recreational development of the small "town" is provided for in a beautiful theater with a seating capacity of 2,000 persons. The latter institution holds the center of the entire building scheme. This colossal prOject was conceived in the mind of Louis Smilansky, who with unusual courage undertook to put his theory of efficient living into concrete form. Mr. Smilansky with a prophetic vision contemplated the continued growth of this great me- tropolis to a point where it would be impossible to properly serve the needs of the increased population by present methods. IIe foresaw the inevitable development of the city within a city, and dared to accelerate the situation by actually putting his idea into con- crete form.
