THE JEWISH CHRONICLE

SOCIETY

Miss Lena Baird has returned
from a two weeks' stay at An-
chorville,
Sylvan S. Grosner, Esq., who
spent a week with his family at
their cottage in Atlantic City and
several days on an automobile
tour in the Catskill Mountains,
returned to the city last Monday.
Mr. Grosner stopped off at Wash-
ington, D. C., his home city, and
visited the capitol to hear the
stirring debate on the "conscrip-
tion taxes'' in the Senate.
The next regular meeting of the
Delta Phi Sorority will be held on
Monday evening, September 10,
at the home of MN. Louis Good-
man of 106 Medbury Boulevard.
Inasmuch as this vi 1 I be the first
meeting of the fall season, all
members of the society are urged
to attend.

THE NEW SEASON WELCOMES
SOMBER COLORS AND SOFT
FABRICS.

The coats B. Siegel Co. arc showing
for the more elaborate suits arc
longer in every instance. One of the
prettiest that they have shown of late
was made of soft Woolen Jersey with
a loose coat of black velvet falling
straight from the shoulders.
The new gowns and dresses are of
the type that will be likely to appeal
to women who dress modishly, but
conservatively. One dress, for in-
stance, shown b\' this house, is vcry
smart, made of Jersey Cloth and
trimmed with stitching. The front is
niad, with a blouse gathered into a
wide belt trimmed with the stitching.
The stitching also trims the neck and
sleeves of the garment. The dress is
made with coat efTect at back and
sides.
Another dress is made on long,
straight lines. It is drawn in slightly
at the waistline by a bcad-embroid-
cred belt. The bead embroidery also
trims the square neck. The upper
part of the dress is made of Chinese
blue and (lark blue Satin, the Chinese
blue forming the upper part of the
dress and extending to the hip line, to
which is attached the lower part of
the skirt of dark blue Satin. •
Another dress is of soft, silky Coat
Broadcloth and is trimmed at the
front of the skirt with bands of Fur.
Fur also trims the collar.
Among the new coat and suit ma-
terials the designers have chosen their
fabrics with strict regards to prac-
tical considerations, but with unerring
instinct for elegance and beauty. Vel-
vet, Satin, a host of beautiful Velvet
finished Woolens, such as Suede, Ve-
lours Delaine, Duvetyne, and glossy
Satin-like Woolens are the materials
chosen for the majority of street cos-
tumes, and by way of trimming there
has been made a free use of fur, silk
and wool embroidery and bead em-
broidery.—Adv.
