KING OF SPAIN ASKS BERLIN
TO INTERCEDE FOR JEWS.
A dispatch from Madrid, reads as

follows:
"The Spanish Government, it is an-
nounced in the newspapers, has in-
structed its representatives in Berlin,
Vienna and Constantinople to present
an urgent note demanding that there
be an end to the persecutions, depor-

the Jews in Palestine. King Alfonso,
it is said, has intervened directly in
this question.
"Numerous residents of the Near
East, it is pointed out, are of Span-

NEW JEWISH CITY SCHOOLS
IN POLAND.

Jacob Billikopf, general director of
the $10,000,000 Jewish War Relief
campaign, stopped off in Detroit last
Saturday while en route to San Fran-
cisco. The members of the local war
relief committee conferred with Mr.
Billikopf informally at luncheon. He
expressed great hope that the $10,-
000,000 would be forthcoming long be-
fore the time limit set, but said much
work had yet to be done, as many
large communities have not as vet
responded to the full extent of their
expectations.
"It is indeed a pleasure to me to
stop in this great city of yours," said
Mr. Billikopf. "Your praises are be-
ing sung in the cast and throughout
the land. You have nobly lived up to
your splendid campaign slogan, which
is being adopted in other communi-
ties. You have not only done more
than your share but you have also of-
fered to help the great metropolis of
New York do more than its share.
All honor to Detroit and Detroiters."
