PROF. SCHARFMAN TO AD-
DRESS JEWISH STUDENTS'
SOCIETY.

Organization of University students
to Hold Mass Meeting on Satur-
day, July 21, at Jewish Institute.

Prof. I. Leo Scharfman of the Uni-
• versity of Michigan will speak in De-
troit on Saturday, July 21, at 8 o'clock,
at the Jewish Institute on High street,
under the auspices of the Jewish Stu-
dents' Society. His topic will be "The
World Situation and Jewish Relief."
The Jewish Students' Society, whose
membership represents the University
of Michigan, M. A. C., Ohio State
University, Buffalo University, and
local colleges and professional schools,
was organized recently at the close
of the college year. The object of
the organization is to further interest
among Jewish students in the modern
history, literature and problems of the
Jewish people. The practical work
of the society will aid in the allevia-
tion of the suffering of Jews in all
lands through relief work. For this
purpose the students propose to de-
vote their vacation periods.
The meeting on Saturday night will
be in the nature of a mass meeting
to which an invitation is extended
especially to all Jewish young people
and to the general public.

RUMANIA TO HELP JEWS.

Equal Civil and Political Rights Are
Promised.
New York.—The Jewish Morning
Journal received from M. Bratiano,
the Rumanian Premier, the following
cable dispatch, dated Jassy:
"Our determination to give the
Jews in Rumania equal civil and po-
litical rights is unanimous and defi-
nite. The King has pledged his royal
word and the Government, which rep-
resents the two political parties of
the constitution, has made the same
declaration in Parliament. Techni-
calities of the Constitution oblige it
to postpone the vote of this reform
until after the new election, which
takes place only after the liberation
of our territory.
"The American nation understands
that we cannot modify the Constitu-
tion, but the idea that the new Par-
liament, legally endowed with the
right to amend the Constitution in
this respect, will no doubt do it, must
not be entertained.
"BRATIANO."

paign by which the raising of a $200,-

pose of endowing the Yeshivah Rabbi
Isaac Elchanan, the rabbis giving

through the fact that in their judg-
ment it is the only seminary in Amer-

confer the rabbinical degree, accord-
ing to orthodox ritual.
3. To visit, upon request, places
