THE JEWISH CHRONICLE
4
"I only wish," said the patriarchal
figure, "that I could tell you how
deeply I feel the responsibility which
conies with this crying appeal. It
is a privilege for me to be able to re-
spond and I thank God that he has
blessed me with the substance where-
with to do my humble share. The
hand of God is written on the wall
and unlike the ancient king in the
scriptures, Israel will not be found
wanting."
Other Contributions.
Other contributions were then
called for, and many and generous
were the responses. The amount
pledged within a space of twenty-five
minutes exceeded the hundred thou-
sand dollar mark, although the at-
tendance at the dinner was limited to
about fifty of the most active work-
ers. Some of the larger donations
rivaled the magnificent gift of Mr.
Freud, but the committee is withhold-
ing the names of these subscribers for
the time being.
One of the most touching features
of the entire meeting came with the
announcement that a captain of wait-
ers at the hotel, had asked the privi-
lege of subscribing to the fund. As
this announcement was made the
audience repeated its previous tribute
and rose to its feet.
Great Progress Promised.
Rabbi Krass, in commenting upon
the meeting, stated that the occasion
was one of the most inspiring lie had
ever witnessed and that he was as-
sured in his own mind that when the
final returns were announced, at the
end of the campaign for the ten mil-
lion .dollar fund, the city of Detroit
would be in the forefront of Ameri-
can cities. He expressed pleasure at
the thought of his early return to this
city to co-operate with the local work-
ers and other men of prominence in
a mass meeting which will be held as
a climax to the local campaign.
The members of the committee in
charge of arrangements of the cam-
paign remained to discuss the plans
and details in carrying on the work.
It was announced that arrangements
are being made to entertain the Hon-
orable Henry Morgenthau, former
United States ambassador to Turkey,
Judge Julian Mack and other distin-
guished Jews of the nation, who will
visit Detroit to further the purposes
of the national campaign.
Great satisfaction was expressed at
the wonderful progress made so far
and it was the universal opinion that
the initial success achieved is but an
augury of still greater success yet to
come.
Capacity Congregation Hears Rabbi
Krass at Tempel Beth El
Sunday Morning
Attendance is one of largest of year
despite bad weather. Dr. Krass pleads
for the saving of the Jews in Europe
to enjoy their newly-acquired freedom.
Despite the most disagreeable spring
weather, the services at the Temple Beth
El last Sunday morning were attended
by one of the largest congregations of
the year. It was indeed a tribute of
the people of Detroit to Rabbi Nathan
Krass of Brooklyn, N. Y., who occupied
th - t pulpit of the temple at the invia-
tion of Rabbi Leo M. Franklin. Every
available space of the auditorium was
lilted and many latecomers were unable
to secure seats.
Rabbi Krass made a very favorable
impression on all who saw and heard
him. He has not been as well known in
this city as other eastern rabbis, but it
is certain now that he will lie a wel-
come visitor here in the future. Dr.
Krass represents the younger type of
American rabbi. He has a most pleas-
ing personality and his eloquence com-
bines the force of oratory with the
solemnity of prayerful appeal.

Common Stock is the best industrial stock on the market that can be bought today.
The Plymouth Motor Castings Company can show you by their books' daily net profits
that the stock is worth much more than their selling price of $12.00 per share. They are
selling this stock to get the money needed to take care of the business now on their
books and offered them. When they have installed the equipment this money will buy,
the increased business they will be turning out will net much greater profits on the
stock which will be outstanding and which will be proven by the dividends which they
will then commence paying.
Any first-class manufacturer using castings or expert foundrymen will tell you that
a foundry which turns out the best quality castings always has more than it can do and
is one of the soundest and most profitable business propositions in existence.

The subject of Rabbi Krass's sermon
was "Is God Asleep?" He stated that
such a question may at first thought
seem blasphemous to the average self-
complacent and smug church goer, but
that it was a question that is being se-
riously asked by many starving mothers
in blood-soaked Europe who had lost
their loved ones, and that it could be
only answered satisfactorily by man
himself. "It has been man that has
been asleep all these years," said Dr.
'crass. "We have allowed our better
senses to be dulled by luxurious living
and a disregard for the wants and feel-
ings of others.
"What is going on in Europe now?
You are being appealed to fob aid in
saving Belgian babies from .starvation.
Yott are asked to help the orphans of
France, and the people of Poland and
of Serbia. But if these people suffer,
Israel suffers ten thousand times more.

speak. I appeal to your other senses
and for a larger ideal, that you may be
saviors of souls. Your God says that all
Israel are brethren. It is your opportu-
nity now to asve thousands, to make
them live again.
"They are free, your brethren in Rus-
sia. But we must help them to. live
that they may enjoy their liberty.
"What will you pay, what will you
give, to build up your people in Rus-
sia? From your superfluities, your sur-
plus? That's no sacrifice. When the
American country calls, you'll give up
all you have to serve America. Every
Jew will help.
"Yet you must, in addition, serve
your brothers across the sea. This will
be an added luster to the name of De-
troit. Ask yourselves, are we asleep?
Work with all your mind and soul for
the saving of our brothers for perpetual
peace, that the world may be turned
from a shambles to a paradise."

They need this equipment now and are selling treasury stock to procure it, hence
your opportunity to share in the profits of this business. The amount necessary is com-
paratively small and you will have to act quickly or you will be among the numerous
throng in the future who will be repeating the old story, "I had an opportunity once to
buy that stock at (in this case, $12.00 per share, and now see where it has risen to," and
now is the right time to buy this stock.
They have no time to call on you personally, so they take this means of notifying
you. Call them up (Cadillac 5121) and make an appointment and investigate their
proposition. The active ones are the people who succeed in this day and age. Act now.
Place your dollars where they are absolutely safe and will multiply, with no further
effort on your part. You'll always be delighted that you bought Plymouth Motor Cast-
ings Co. Common Stock.
