THE JEWISH CHRONICLE

300 Jewish Young Women To Partici-
pate In Flower Day, May 20th

Will Meet Wednesday Evening, at Home of I. L. Scheinman,
90 Rowena St. All Jewish Young Women
Urged to Attend.

A few years ago, Lady Rothschild
was presented with a flower from a
farm in Palestine. With great en-
thusiasm she pinned it to her bosom,
exclaiming, "How proud I am to pos-
sess a flower of our own historic
home!"
Every Jewish young woman in De-
troit is urged to hearken to the ap-
peal of the local committee of the
National Fund for service on Flower
Day, May 20. Three hundred young
women are needed to make every Jew
in Detroit the proud possessor of a
flower representing our historic home
in Palestine.
The proceeds of the fund of Flower
Day will be devoted to aiding worthy
Jews in productive work in Palostine.
It will not conflict with the campaign
for Jewish War Relief, as every dol-
lar spent by the National Fund at the
Present moment in Palestine is a dol-
lar saved for the War Relief Fund.
The home of I. L. Scheinman, 90
Rowena street, has been turned over
to the local committee for Wednes-
day evening, May 9. Three hundred
girls are expected to be present here
at that time to receive instructions
for Flower Day.

The proclamation of the Jewish Na-
tional Fund for America follows:
"The most humane, most noble and
the only practical help that can be
given the needy is help through use-
ful, productive work. The Jewish
National Fund in Palestine has, since
the outbreak of the war, afforded this

A LONELY JEWISH LITTLE
GIRL.
WARSAW.—In the issue- of Febru-
ary 4th, in the local publication "Dos
Yiddishe Wort," the following notice
appears under the above heading : "In
the fourth military district, a Jewish lit-
tle girl of 10 years is being kept for
some days past. Her name is Pesche
Sal, and in Warsaw she appears to be
perfectly alone, having no one to look
after her. According to her story, she
has her parents in Paris. For some
time strangers took care of her. but
lately they could not do it any more, and
she had to leave them. If today, by
eleven o'clock in the morning, no rep-
resentative of a suitable Jewish institu-
tion or a philanthropic individual will
come prepared to take her in their care.
the child will be handed over to a Chris-
tian institution. It is to be hoped that
someone will appear in good time to
take charge of the child."
Just a striking illustration of Jewish
war tragedy.

help with the means provided by the
people.
"The support given by us to the
Jewish National Fund provides the
means of making an honorable liv-
ing by productive work for hundreds
of Jewish workmen employed in the
colonies and on the farms of the Na-
tional Fund, and in the special work
undertaken by the National Fund for
the unemployed who otherwise would
have to beg or starve.
"Every dollar spent by the National
Fund at the present moment in Pal-
estine is a dollar saved for the War
Relief Fund, because where the Na-
tional Fund does not provide work,
the relief funds must provide alms.
It is even more than that, for the dol-
lar paid for work is productive. It
provides bread, fruits and other nec-
essaries for the whole population.
"At the same time we thereby
strengthen the foundation for the fu-
ture of our people in our historical
land, for the Jewish National Fund
i the
takes a most important part in
colossal task of transforming the land
of Israel into a Jewish home, a home
for every Jew who will need it, and
of which every Jew will feel proud.
The 'war will undoubtedly bring
greater opportunities for our work nt
Palestine. This greater work will
have to be based on the foundations
laid there already. It is, therefore,
our sacred duty to maintain what we
have already created there, and above
all, to keep our workmen on the soil.
"Do your share for the National
Fund!"
