DETROIT OPERA HOUSE

Washington,— Ambassador Fran-
cis, at Petrograd, cabled the state de-
partment a response to the message
sent by American Jews to Russian
Foreign Minister Milukoff pledving
support to the new government.
The ambassador's reply says the
Russian provisional government is
very appreciative of the sympathy of
American Jews; that it realizes the
great danger confronting new Russia
by German militarism and that no
political party contemplates such an
eventuality as a separate peace with
Germany.
"The Russian provisional govern-
ment," the message says, "is very ap-
preciative of the sympathy which the
authorized representatives of Ameri-
can Jewish citizens are so good as to
accord to its effort to assure the tri-
umph of the great principles of de-
mocracy, of liberty, and of equality of
all Russian citizens without distinc-
tion of nationality or religion.
"As regards the uncertainty shown
by American Jews on account of the
rumors of agitation of certain ele-
ments for a separate peace, I can as-
sure them that these rumors are
wholly without foundation.
"No Russian party, whatever its po-
litical program, has contemplated or
could contemplate the eventuality of
a separate peace with the foreign ag-
gressor.
"The great danger which menaces
new Russia and the entire world if
heed should be paid to the efforts
which have for their end the mainten-
ance of the fearful German militar-
ism, are only too well known here."
The message was signed by M. Mil-
ukoff, the Russian foreign minister.
It was in response to a message sent
by Louis Marshall, Henry Morgen-
thu, Jacob H. Schiff, Oscar Straus
and Julius Rosenwald.

tify their members of the same. The
nomination convention must be held
in Detroit not later than May 15 and
it is imperative that all organizations
should have representation in that
convention. Most organizations have
already called special meetings and
elected their delegates. We therefore
call upon those which have not as yet
done so to elect their delegates at
once.
