Detroit B'Nai B'Rith Welcomes 50 New
Members

Rabbis Leo M. Franklin, David Alexander of Toledo, Bernard
Ginsburg and Samuel J. Rhodes Speak at Pisgah
Lodge Initiation and Dinner

Amidst ceremonies of initiation,
marked by their simplicity and im-
pressive by their solemnity, 50 Jew-
ish men took the oath of membership
in Pisgah Lodge and thereby enlist-
ed in the army of 13'Nai B'Rith. The
class of candidates, while by no means
the largest initiated into the order
within recent months, is one of the
most representative of the Jewish
community of Detroit. The exercises
were conducted by the degree team
of the 11'Nai liTith of Toledo.
Following the ceremony of initia-
tion, a dinner and reception was held
in honor of the candidates and the
visitors from Toledo, in which over
20(1 members of the - local lodge and
their friends participated. Samuel
Klein acted as toastmaster, and the
speakers included Rabbi Leo M.
Franklin, Rabbi David Alexander of
Toledo, Bernard Ginsburg, Samuel
Messing of Toledo, and Samuel J.
Rhodes.

Order Can Accomplish Much.
Rabbi Franklin, in a brief but mas-
terful address, called attention to the
past achievements of the order of
B'Nai Width, and exhorted the new-
ly admitted members to make the fu-
ture worthy of the past. "Much as
the order of IVNai B'Rith has ac-
complished," he said, "its possibilities
for good have not yet begun to be
exhausted. There is much work yet
to be clone, which so far remains un-
done. There is much good to achieve
which is only waiting for the right
men to accomplish it. It is to you
men upon whom has been conferred
the privilege of B'Nai B'Rith mem-
bership tonight, that American Jewry
looks forward to keep tip the work
of social service for which the order
of B'Nai B'Rith stands."
Rabbi Franklin termed the occa-
sion "the most impressive gathering"
which he had witnessed in his "25
years of B'Nai B'Rith membership."

Emphasizes Jewish Loyalty.
That the young Jewish man should
take a greater interest in Jewish of-.
fairs, especially in B'Nai B'Rith work,
is the substance of the remarks made
by Rabbi David Alexander. He em-
phasized the lesson of loyalty to
American institutions and traditions
taught by the order of B'Nai B'Rith,
and took occasion to point out the
extreme necessity of learning it well
in the crisis at present confronting
the country,
Samuel M. Messing, in behalf of
the visiting
Toledo
delegation,
thanked the members of Pisgah
Lodge for their splendid hospitality,
and expressed the hope that the oc-
casion would mark the beginning of
a new ere of cordial good fellowship
and closer harmony and co-operation
between the B'Nai B'Rith lodges of
Detroit and Toledo.
• "Every man's character," declared
Bernard Ginsburg, "is determined by
the importance of poetry and ideals
in his mental make-up. The Order of
B'Nai B'Rith is the biggest outlet for
Jewish idealism. And it is an im-
mensely practical idealism, because it
finds expression in immensely con-
structive work."

B'Nai B'Rith Is Big Gun of
American Jewry.

Pisgah Lodge, referred to some of

very expressive, won much applause.
Little Miss Sempliner contributed a

Dancing concluded the program.

Rugs from the Auction

AST week in the city of New York
the great annual rug auction was
staged. Over $7,000,000 worth of
rugs changed hands, and we really
believe that prices will not be so low
again fori years to come.

We purchase generously and already large shipments have begun
to arrive. Before we make our wholesale and retail allotments we
place a large portion of the rugs on sale.
We urge you to make your selection as early as possible.
