Young People's Society Opera.

Attention is called to the fact that
the Annual Opera, under the auspices
of the Young People's Society of the
Temple, will be given at the Garrick
Theater on Sunday evening of this

formance say that it will eclipse all
former efforts of our young people.

crowded to its capacity. Tickets may
be obtained at Grinnell Bros., March
29, 30 and 31, or at the Garrick Thea-
ter Sunday, Apri1,1.

JEWS RISK LIVES TO SAVE
SCROLLS.

PETROGRAD.—The local press
gives details of the Synagogue fire in
which Nv r e burned hundreds of Holy
Scrolls. The fire occurred at what is
known as the "Malkover" Simi, and
contained over 500 "Sophere Torahs,"
which had been deposited there by the
refugees now gathered here from all
parts. The night of the fire a number
of elderly Jews worked incessantly
and risked their lives again and again
in an attempt to save the Holy Scrolls,
and thanks to their supernatural ef-
forts about half of the number were
saved. Among the destroyed scrolls
were a number of especial worth, hay - -
Mg been many centuries in existence.
The entire loss is valued at over a
million rubles.
