For County Treasurer

William H. Green, Jr.

The office of county treasurer has
brought out a field of candidates for
nomination, but the office is one of im-
portance, requiring a certain amount of
schooling and adaptability. Mr. Wil-
liam H. Green, Jr., as chief clerk in the
county auditor's office for a number of
years, has had a training that has espe-
cially qualified him for the position of
county treasurer. He is thoroughly
familiar with all departments in county
affairs. He has made a host of friends,
both throughout the city and county, by
his prompt and courteous manner in
the position he holds. His method of
dealing with old or young, rich or poor,
has pointed him out as a man in a class
by himself, and one well worthy of pro-
motion. His record in business and in
public office has been one of upright-
ness and integrity, and in every way
qualifies him for the promotion he is
now seeking.

I. 0. B. B. of Detroit Takes First Step in
Jewish Congress Movement

Decision of Order to Participate in Movement for a Congress of Ameri-
can Jews Stirs Local Lodge to Activity

Following,' closely upon the an-
nouncement of Adolph Kraus, in-
ternational president of the Order
of
Nai th.J th:• latter
organization would give its sup-
port to the movement for a Je .v-
ish Congress, Pisgah Lodge No.
34 of Detroit has taken stems to
carry into execution the decision
of the order. Immediately upon
receiving a letter from Mr. Kraus
embodying the resolve of the 1.
O.
Il. to throw its entire weight
behind a Congress representing a
united American Jewry, Presi-
dent Jacob Miller of Pisgah lodge
appointed a committee to co-
operate with other local Congress
leaders.. 11w committee includes
among other, Louis James Rosen-
berg, who has been actively iden-
tified with the movement for a
Jewish Congress since its very in-
ception, and Louis Cohn, Presi-
dent of the Local Congress Com-
mittee.
The decision of the I. 0. I" ) .
to back the movement for a Jew-
ish Congress was the subject of
much favorable comment among
members of the order in Detroit.
The general feeling prevalent in
local circles was that while the
Order of IrNai IrRith was justi-
fied in refusing to take any part
in the movement during- the CNi:;l-

be a charitable institution, but a

strictly private enterprise. In
the opinion of the founders, there

acted wisely in adding- to the
movement for a Congress of
American Jews dedicated to the
task of securing those elementary
rights for their brethren across
the sea to which they are en-

of the oldest and most important
of American Jewish fraternal or-
