DETROIT —"THE CITY OF
HOMES."

Some of the Forces at Work in
Earning for Our City
That Title.

It has always been the proud
boast of Detroit, a boast which
facts substantiate, that it is a city
of homes. Building statistics show
that in proportion to its population
our city has a far larger percentage
of homes than any other city at all
approximate to it in size.

A large part of the credit for this
situation must go to the builders
and construction firms of Detroit.
It is these men and firms, men of
the stamp of Frederic 13. Stevens
and firms of the fibre of the Geo.
A. Fuller Co., building construc-
tors, who, with their broadness of
vision and far-sightedness, have
made it possible for this city to oc-
cupy the distinguished position it
does. It has been more than a ques-
tion of dollars and cents with them.
Undoubtedly their work and its
quality and high character was in-
spired largely by commercial con-
siderations; but it was inspired .
even more largely by a spirit of
civic consciousness, by a sense of
civic duty and pride, by the desire
to do things for Detroit.

Among the many business con-
cerns prominent in building and
construction lines, mention must be
made of the Hamtramck Lumber &
Builders' Supply Co., specialists in
roofing and asphalt shingles, but
who also handle a full line of lum-
ber, sash, doors and interior finish.
Another firm which deserves com-
mendable mention in these cc,itunns
is the Asbestos Protected Metal
Co., which due to the energy and
'efficiency of Mr. Wm. R. Frazier,
district manager, and to the excel-
lence of its products, has come to
occupy a leading position in build-
ing circles in Detroit. This com-
pany makes a specialty of fireproof,
asbestos protected metal, which has
been used successfully for many
and varied building and construc-

tion purposes.
