5 THE TEWISH CHRONICLE Jewish Young Man Wins Coveted Honor INSTERWALD Joseph S. Burak Chosen by Classmates as Class Orator at Commencement Exercises. Occupying a prominent position on the program for the Commence- ment Exercises of the Detroit Col- lege of Law, held last Thursday evening at Arcadia Hall, was Jos- eph S. Ilurak, class orator. The position of class orator, election to which is based upon scholarship, oratorical skill and general popu- larity, is one of the highest honors possible in college, and it is the fond dream of every undergraduate that he will some day attain it. Burak has the further distinction of being the first Jewish student in the history of the institution to be elected to the class oratorship. In the course of his oration, en- titled "The Rubicon," .\ Burak said: "We are living in a time when many things and great things are being done with startling rapidity. th e \Ve li ve i n an age w h en all world is torn and ripped asunder. \Ve are part of an unparalleled period of history. We are to become members of that pro- fession which for these many cen- turies has aimed at adjUAing the difficulties of man and man with justice and equity—with righteous- ness and fairness. "So our profession demands at these times that we may strive to bring order out of these chaotic conditions. Our profession com- mands us to devote ourselves to the building of those institutions of men which make for happiness and civilization. "I khind us lies Gaul. We arc about to cross the Rubicon.
