Mr. G. Gustave Falck of New York spent the week-end in De- troit. Rabbi Franklin returned on Tues- day morning from New York, where he was called by the death of Mr. Arthur D. Brandeis. Mr. Brandeis was a member of Rabbi Franklin's first congregation in Omaha, Neb., and a close personal friendship has been maintained through all these years between the Brandeis family and Rabbi Frank- lin. Mr. Brandeis was the leading merchant in Nebraska, having built up the largest department store west of Chicago. He is survived by three children and a widow who was Zer- lina Freedman of Detroit. Mr. Jacob G. Brown has returned from New York, where he went to attend the funeral of Mr . . Arthur Brandeis. Mr. N. Maxwell Friedman of De- troit is a member of the graduating class of Harvard, 1916. Mr. Fried- man has made a splendid record in his college career and has won many honors for work accomplished.
