THE JEWISH CHRONICLE 18 What the Women of Temple Beth El Have Done By MRS. MONROE ROSENFIELD Chairman of Program Committee T HE Women's Auxiliary of Temple Beth El has done much useful work 'during the past year. Before the season really opened a Succoth Festival was given by and for the children of Temple Beth El Religious School. A real. Succoth was built on the Pulpit of the Temple. The usual con- tributions of fruits, vegetables and groceries were made by young and old and later distrib- uted among the sick and needy. While it is the purpose of your committee to present a literary programme dealing with topics of Jewish character, its real aim is . that of promoting sociability, introducing new members and al- together to create a sisterly feel- ing among all its members. With that in view the season was opened in November with a "Get Acquainted Luncheon," which was very largely attended and, your committee hopes, has ful- filled its purpose. The Fail' held in December was an outgrowth of the same thought. "What the Jew has done in music" was the first topic of our literary programme and was ably presented in January by Mrs. Boris Ganapol. Vocal and instru- mental selections by Jewish com- posers were given in a most artistic manner by members of the Ganapol School of Musical Art. The rooms were filled to their capacity—standing room was hardly available. In February, Mrs. Maurice Goldenberg spoke to us of "The Jew in Art." She told much that was interesting and instructive. "What the Jew has done and how he has been treated in Liter- ature" was told in a most delight- ful manner in March by Mrs. Alfred Breitenbach and Mrs. Wallace Rosenheim. In April, Miss Judith/Ginsburg gave a most elaborate paper on "What the Jew has done in the Drama," and Dr. Franklin spoke on the "Significance of Ceremonies in Judaism." At our April meeting we had an extra number. It was our pleasure and privilege to listen to LK•XX•XX•M`WYY•NrY4re'Vge'Vge:Yferf•Y:"•'<* . re'•".. 0 geY•Y.
