Zionists Dine Jacob De Haas.
Jacob Dc Haas, one of the lead-
ers of American Zionism, and for-
merly secretary to Theodor Herz!,
editor of the Jewish Advocate of
Boston, was tendered a banquet
by his friends on Sunday evening,
April 19, at Vienna Hall. There
were present three Zionists who
had attended the first Zionist Con-
gress with Mr. De Haas, fellow
Zionists from London, friends of
his from Boston, and a large num-
ber of New York Zionists. Charles

Strike Spoils Vacation of Oscar
Straus.
The strike on the New York
subway caused Oscar S. Straus
to bring his vacation to an abrupt
termination. Mr. Straus was in
Asheville, N. C., with Mrs. Straus,
who is convalescent from an at-
tack of pneumonia, and had in-
tended to stay for some time. He
had a call from New York City,
which necessitated his leaving.
Mr. Straus is chairman of the
Public Service Commission for
the southern district of New York.

Pittsburgh Y. M. H. A. Dedicates
New Home.
The Pittsburgh (Pa.) Y. M. H.
A. began the dedication of its
beautiful new home, formerly the
Elks' Temple, on Sunday, April
19. The speakers on that occasion
were the Rev. J. Leonard Levy,
Attorneys A. Leo Weil and Jo-
seph Stadfield, Dr. Rudolph I.
Coffee, now of Chicago, and H. J.
Applestein. The functions were

gave their Fourth Annual Box So-
cial April 8. •The affair was given
for the benefit of the Jewish War
Sufferers and was very successful,

$100. Mr. Dave Fealk and Mr.
Henry Hoffman were auctioneers.
One of the special attractions of
this affair was dancing.
A meeting was held the follow-
ing Monday, April 10, at the home
of Mr. I. Zellman, 104 Theodore
St. Mr. J. Tennenbaum resigned
from his office of vice-president
owing to the fact that he was
leaving town. The society is
planning' to give an excursion to
Tashmoo Park during the season.
The meeting of April 19 was
held at the home of D. and S.
Fealk, where nominations for vice-
president took place. The nomi-
nees were Mr. I. Zellman and Mr.
Henry Hoffman. Miss Rose • Lo-
pates, Miss Ida Friedman and
Miss Sadie Fealk were appointed
on the new Press Committee.
The next meeting will be held
Wednesday evening. at the home
of H. Hoffman, 240 Hendrie Ave.'
