Mrs. Julia Frankau, the well- known writer, whose pen name ryas "Frank Danby," died at her home in London on March 17. Mrs. Frankau, who wrote un- der the name of Frank Danby, was the daughter of an artist, and was in her fifty-third year. She was educated at home by Mme. "Dr. Phil- lips. a Maida Vale Idyll." was published in 1887, and was fol- lowed by "A Babe in Bohemia," two years later. Mrs. Frankau then abandoned writing fiction in favor of studying engraving. A Cushion Sole recent unveiling of the Jeanne D'Arc statue in New York City brings to an end the five years' work of the commit- tee organized for its erection. The unveiling of the statue.is not only a triumph for the sculptor, Anna Vaughn Hyatt, but is of great interest to women. Writ- ing of the statue in a recent is- sue of the International Studio, Grace Humphries says : `.`It is the first and only heroic eques- trian statue ever created by a woman. Coming near, as it as- suredly does, to being- the great- est equestrian statue in America, Miss Hyatt's success is an open- ing wedge for women in this work. Frequently sculptors of talent and ability have been re- fused important commissions merely for the fact that they were women. Gradually opinion changes, and when in the future great pieces of sculpture are com- peted for by women, and success- fully, Miss Hyatt will he recog- nized as the pioneer, the blazer of the trail." of lamb's wool, cork, and high-grade leather gives IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII I IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII I IIIIIII Art Center For Sale — Fine 2 -famil9 brick flat, in second block from Woodward Avenue, North Side of the Street. 7 rooms and bath down stairs, eight rooms and bath upstairs, beautifully decora- ted and in perfect condition.
