dances ever .given by the Fresh
Air Society was held on Thurs-
day evening of last week at Al-
hambra Hall, and much credit is
due those having the arrange-
ments of the affair in charge.

has a considerable Jewish popu-
lation, has given rise to an
precedented incident. The Mili-
tary Governor having obtained
from the chief rabbi a list of the
Jewish festivals, gave directions
that government offices shonld
he closed on all these (lays, in-
cluding the two days of Purim,
which arc celebrated by the Se-
fardic Jews with much ceremony.

MRS. H. KLEIN
One of the largest successes of
the season was the ball given un-
der the auspices of the Hebrew
Ladies' Aid Society On Sunday
evening; March It ► th, at Burk's
Gasino. This success was due to
no small extent to the able and
energetic efforts of the Society's
officers, headed by Mrs. harry
Klein, of the Committee on Ar-
rangements, the Floor Commit-
tees, and the General Committee
which was responsible for the en-
tire affair. Among the many dis-
tinguished guests and visitors
present were Judges Jeffries and
Gainey, Mr. and Mrs. H. Lich-
ncr, Mr. and Mrs. Duschinskv
ancl Mr. O'Brien, the Pre dent
of the Detroit Life Insurance
Company.

ization. This contest has received

ment of M. Friedberg- that he

The Y. 'NI. II. A. is at pre•ent
housed in the Shaarey Zedek syn-
agogue, where it has a gymnas-
ium and social hall. It is plashed
however, to secure a borne ex-
elusively for the Y, M. II. A, as
soon as an adequate membership
is secured. The aim is to make
the organization the center
around which social center_work
will revolve.
It is the aim of the Young
Men's Hebrew Association to till
the crying need for an open house
for the hundreds of Jewish young
men coming into Detn ■ it annual-
ly, It seeks to do for the Jewish
youth what the Young Men's
Christian Association' is doing
for the Christian young man. It
knows that when it can show the
proper, membership, the support
necessary for a separate home
will come surely enough. The
nucleus of the organization thus
far has been its athletic features.
It now has broadened out into ed-
ucational and other constructive
work particularly in the building.

good citizenship.
The newly-elected officers of

by a most enthusiastic business
meeting of the Congregation, in
which some very ambitious plans
for the future were discussed.
